A day in the life: following our dream from friends to business partners
We’ve worked so hard in the last few months to put together an incredible selection of local products, and now we are ramping up getting to know our customers online.
A business is so much more than a brand logo and product pictures. We want YOU, yea you, to know who we are and what drives us to put everything we’ve got into our awesome, custom gift boxes.
Hello! I am Kayla, the blog writer, social media poster, taste tester, box packer, wife, and mom of two awesome girls. You will also notice that I am constantly changing my hair color. Yup, you will have to get used to that :).
To help you get a grasp of who I am I will say this. I think that I am a fun and outgoing person, I am married to one of my best friends and work full time with the other. My dad is my favorite person (aside from my children and husband). I love to hang out with my girlfriends, going to lunch and having too much wine on a Monday is an ideal situation for me.
My main goal in my life is to live, what I consider to be a “successful” life. I want weekends with my family, day trips to the beach, long drives to the mountain, girls weekends, and date nights with my husband!
Thanks so much for checking out our site and blog, I will try my best to keep providing you with fun and interesting info about this amazing city we live in and the awesome small business owners that create the products in our boxes!
Now – over to Chelsea!
I’m Chelsea, I’m one of the co-owners of Locally Sourced NW. Most people know me from being the C of CK Events! I have always wanted to be an event planner since I was a little girl and owning my own business was just another step in the right direction for me.
I majored in business in college and love all the layers there is to running a business! No two days are the same and there is always something new to learn. Locally Sourced NW brings me different opportunities and learning experiences when it comes to running a business. There is so much possibility for this business to grow in different directions and getting to experience it with my best friend and our husbands make things even more exciting!
When I’m not staining boxes, prepping, tying the ribbons on the boxes and planning events, you will find me spending time with my family and taking the time on weekends to enjoy everything that Portland has to offer.
I’m always up for girl time though - getting pampered with manicures and pedicures and drinking champagne, are two of my favorite things!
A little tidbit about me: I’m always in planning mode, whether I’m planning the next big event or just dinner for the night. My mind is always creating a to-do list for myself. I have a weird happy obsession with crossing off tasks on my list.
So what does a day in the life of two friends and business owners look like?
There is nothing better than spending our days working together. We feel so insanely lucky that our friendship has blossomed into such an incredible partnership. We lean on each other for everything!
Our friendship started at the FANTASTIC age of 18, and it was best friendship at first sight! We immediately made plans to move in together and just 3 short weeks later we were having “family dinners” and movie nights at our place.
From day one we were always the hosts and the party throwers. There was not a weekend that went by that we were not cooking, baking, and decorating for a fun get together. We have always had a love for entertaining people and bringing joy to a group. That is how our first business CK Events was born. Chelsea finished her Masters and I grew bored of living in Arizona - so once we were back in the same state we decided that it was time to make our business dreams come true.
We have been successfully and joyfully running our boutique event planning service for 3 years. Our clients bring us so much joy; we could not imagine a day where we were not thinking about the next wedding!
You may be wondering what encouraged two wedding planners to get into the world of gift giving. Well it is simple - we love gifting, our couples love gifting, and our vendor friends love gifting. We felt that there was a huge opportunity here. We love supporting the local small businesses and what better way to do that than to put together custom gift boxes of our favorite local Portland things and share them with the world.
A day in the life of Locally Sourced NW looks like the most productive girls day, EVER. Sometimes it starts with pedicures and manicures while we dream up new box concepts, other days we are sitting on the floor of the office stuffing boxes, the best days are when we get to sit around and taste tons of candy and chocolate. Quality control - you are welcome!
So, that is our small business story. Just one day at a time building our empire! We have BIG dreams for this business, we want to grow and be your go to girls when it comes to gifting your favorite people.
